Green is stuffed

At a time of falling house prices and rising costs, people are telling pollsters they are no longer quite so interested in saving the planet. Ipsos MORI has found environmental concerns reached a pinnacle in January 2007 when 19 per cent of people named the environment as one of the biggest issues facing Britain today. By January 2008, that figure had fallen to 8 per cent. One senior member of the shadow cabinet put it more strongly: "People hate this green stuff."

Weirder and weirder

In the past I have taken the mickey out of Keith Flett, but I have realised we have an affinity, with several things in common. For a start, we are both bearded. Keith is a trade union activist, as I was during my working career. Both of us are Trotskyites. Keith lives in Tottenham, where I was born and brought up. Further, the street in which he lives is not far from where my secondary school used to be. What better example is there of a cluster of coincidences?
