The life-size model, with whip, handcuffs and bare buttocks, has been tied to a "Reduce Speed Now" sign and aims to entice motorists into a crime museum. Parish council vice-chairman Julie Wozencroft said: "It does not portray a good image of our village." However, Andy Jones - owner of the Littledean jail museum in Littledean, Gloucestershire - said the model tied in with his 200-year-old building. "She is also a traffic-calming measure."

Bars opening later to service highly stressed financiers who are increasingly trading around the clock have sparked a rise in drunkenness and cocaine use that is now being closely monitored by the City of London Police.

A senior officer said: "There have been more drunken fights and there's been a growth in violent crime over the last 12 months. The landscape in the City is changing. There is always the opportunity to go for a few beers."
