Life in the oligarch belt

Demand for Rolls-Royces is at unprecedented levels, driven by record gains in the property market.

Sales from a Mayfair dealership this year have exceeded those in Beverly Hills. About 60 Phantom models have been bought - 25 per cent more than last year - with prices from £265,500 to more than £400,000 for bespoke limousines with champagne bars, wine "cellars" and hand-crafted cigar humidors.

There are precious few signs that house-price inflation in the "oligarch belt" has run its course.

. . . and life on the buses

A disabled man was left stranded when a bus driver refused to let him on board - in case the battery on his wheelchair leaked.

An investigation is now under way after Andrew Lisicki, from Kentish Town, attempted to board the 214 bus at St Pancras.

"When we asked him to radio his base he refused and he also refused to identify himself. He just shut his doors and drove off."
