Five things you might have missed last week
1. Fireman's lift
A Chicago fireman paid a tenth of what he'd pay in the US for a plastic surgeon in India to make him look like Bruce Willis. "I'm a firefighter. I need to look the part," he said after the operation.
2. Queue dosh
Two Kazakh entrepreneurs have found a way to exploit the country's notorious queues. For a small fee they stand in line and call the client when they are near the front. The two directors currently do all the queueing but say they hope to expand.
3. Heart and sold
A 24-year-old Australian has sold his life on eBay. After a painful romantic split, Nicael Holt sold his name, phone number and all his possessions. The successful applicant bid $5,790.
4. Out for a duck
A duck, alive after being shot and put in a fridge for two days, had a third brush with death when he stopped breathing on the operating table. Perky, who had lifted his head as the hunter's wife opened the fridge, was resuscitated.
5. Don't bother me
Scientists at Jena University in Germany have given up after three years of failed attempts to entice a sloth, Mats, to climb a pole in an experiment in animal movement. "He wasn't remotely interested in furthering science," said university spokesman Axel Burchardt.
