Newsquest journalists in North West to strike

NUJ members in the North West have opted to go on a two-day strike in a protest against staff cuts

NUJ members at Newsquest's redundancy-threatened newspapers in the North West have voted unanimously to take two days of strike action next week.

The strike is in protest at the company's plans to make five journalists redundant across the Warrington Guardian, the Sale and Altrincham Messenger, and the Northwich Guardian. The strike will also affect the St Helens Star and The Wirral Globe.

In a statement the NUJ said its members were determined to press ahead with the strike unless Newsquest agreed to hold talks and suspend the redundancy consultation.
