Jane Pratt, founding editor of Sassy, and Jane, a magazine from the Conde Nast stable, is to launch a new teen magazine in partnership with 14-year-old fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson.
Tavi wrote on her blog, "Style Rookie", on Friday that the duo will launch a teen magazine "for an audience of wallflowerly teenage girls."
Gevinson had often blogged about her admiration for Sassy's blend of empowered, feminist, teen content. Impressed with her blogs, Pratt approached Gevinson about collaborating on a new teen magazine and the duo have already met a couple of times.
In her blog post announcing plans for the new magazine, Gevinson stipulated that this new project wouldn't merely be a new, slightly revamped version of Sassy.
She writes that the new magazine "won't be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0)" but will "use it as a point of reference for the whole teen-magazine-that-doesn't-suck thing."
The still-unnamed venture will have three print issues a year and a website.
Gevinson has invited sample submissions from interested writers, as well as suggestions for the magazine's new name. The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 19.
