Superpower, Inc. (SuperPower) is a power components manufacturing company. It operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Philips Holding USA, the US holding company for Royal Philips Electronics N.V. SuperPower was originally formed by Intermagnetics in 2000 to provide a strong focus for the development and commercialization of HTS technology. The company principally engages in producing superconductors and related products. The company uses high temperature superconducting (HTS) technology in developing power conducting systems. It uses core capabilities in materials, cryogenics and magnetic components to develop the electric power components, such as underground transmission and distribution cables and transformers. Its products provide numerous advantages over conventional, copper-based devices. The company offers wide range of conductors to its customers based on width, substrate thickness, and copper stabilizer. SuperPower has rich client base across various sectors including energy technology, alternative energy, medical technology, general industry, transportation, military and scientific research sectors. The company is headquartered at Schenectady in New York, the US.
In 2009, SuperPower partnered with Waukesha to build SFCL (Fault Current Limiting Superconducting) transformer for US DOE energy smart grid demonstration program.
