Verve Energy (Verve) is a leading electricity producer. The company produces electricity through diverse resources such as coal, gas and liquid (oil or distillate), wind, bio-energy and solar. The company owns and operates four major power stations in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), namely, Kwinana, Cockburn, Pinjar and Muja. In addition, it also owns a fifth power station located at Collie, which is operated by a third party. Its power stations have more than 2,967 MW of electricity production capacity. Furthermore, the company also manages other small power stations located at Mungarra, West Kalgoorlie, Geraldton and Kwinana. It also operates a joint venture power station situated at Worsley. Verve`s generation portfolio also includes renewable energy sources. During 2009, the company entered into an MOU with Inalco Energy to set up a joint venture to refurbish, upgrade and recommission its Muja Power Station Stages AB.The company recorded revenues of A$ 1,062.50 million during the fiscal year ended June 2009, as compared to A$ 1,061.02 million in 2008. The operating loss of the company was A$ 133.2 million during the fiscal year 2009, as compared to operating loss of A$ 98.33 million during 2008. The net loss of the company was A$ 171.16 million during the fiscal year 2009, as compared to a net loss of A$ 132.09 million during 2008.
