Hitachi Communication Technologies America (HCTA) has unveiled a new line of optical network units (ONUs) for its DePON fiber access systems.
According to HCTA, the new ONUs leverage the low cost, high bandwidth available with PON while enabling cable service providers to keep their existing DOCSIS provisioning and management systems. The new products support voice, video, data and wireless services for creation of double play, triple play, and quad play subscriber bundles.
Advanced software features in the new ONU family enable cable operators to offer high bandwidth data services along with voice and RF Video while preserving investments in CPE and existing management procedures, said HCTA.
Yanming Liu, CMO for HCTA, said: “We work closely with our MSO partners to define the right feature sets for these new devices. Our emphasis on advanced software functions enables the delivery of voice, video and data services for any business, residential or backhaul application. We know from our joint development work with customers that these features create new revenue opportunities service providers can rapidly leverage.”
Will ONUs help in improving HCTA services?
