Mr Moriarty will play a central role in shaping and executing digital strategies that expand the Globe audience beyond the newspaper and its online site, Boston.com. He joins the Globe from About.com where he is senior vice president, product management at About.com, responsible for developing products and functionality that enhance the site's user experience.
Mr Moriarty joined About.com in 2009 with 15 years of experience developing and managing digital products across other properties of The New York Times Company. The appointment will take effect on September 13, 2010 and he will report to Martin Baron, editor of The Boston Globe.
Mr Moriarty will guide both the development and the execution of plans that will help the Globe expand its capabilities to deliver news and information to readers wherever and however they want.
Prior to the About Group, Mr Moriarty was vice president for new media at The New York Times Company's Regional Media Group, where he was responsible for the internet strategy and operations for the group's 14 newspapers.
Mr Moriarty joined the Times Company in 1993 and has served as vice president for product and technology for Boston.com, director of classifieds operations at NYTimes.com, and vice president for regional and emerging properties, New York Times Digital.
