Net income was $208m, or $0.47 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of 2010, compared to $156m, or $0.35 per diluted share, for the same period in 2009. Operating income was $394m, compared to $305m for the same period in 2009.
Selling, administrative and general expenses were $291m for the fourth quarter of 2010, compared to $303m for the same period in 2009.
For the twelve months ended December 31, 2010, total revenues were $3.77 billion, compared to $3.45 billion for the same period in 2009. Net income was $680m, or $1.55 per diluted share, compared to $564m, or $1.27 per diluted share, for the same period in 2009.
Selling, general and administrative expenses were $1.185 billion for the twelve months of 2010, compared to of $1.188 billion for the same period in 2009. Operating income was $1.36 billion, compared to $1.27 billion for the same period in 2009.
Education and Other full year 2010 revenue increased 3 percent to $153m primarily from an increase in streaming volumes, partially offset by lower results from the Creative Sound Service business. Adjusted OIBDA decreased $1m to $15m, as the Education Adjusted OIBDA growth was more than offset by lower results from the Creative Sound Service business.
For the full year ending December 31, 2011, the company expects total revenue between $4 billion and $4.1 billion, adjusted OIBDA between $1.82 billion and $1.9 billion, and net income available to Discovery Communications stockholders of $925m to $1 billion.
