By doing so we are signalling our determination to leave Iraq to the Iraqis. What they choose to do with their country is up to them.

Yes... the war against "terror" is not a legitimate one, so GBR should abandon it`s alliance with the Imperialist US

Purge Britain of its traitors -- those who've egged us into this pointless war.

If phased drawing down strategies, whether or not justified by plausible rationales, were good enough for Ike and Nixon to end bigger and bloodier wars than Iraq, then it's plenty good enough for this PM.

The illegitimate war must end, or at least our part in it. Leave the Americans to their own devices and their own mess, this is not our war - we never wanted it, we never supported it. Too many British lives have been lost to the lining of pockets in the American elite. Get us out.

Let the fragile middle-east economies stand on their own feet, with their own rich resources and their own governments, they don't need America. The world doesn't need America. Bush should stand trial. Sadly, I doubt he ever will.

Our troops should never have been there in the first place, fighting and dying in an immoral war at the behest of spineless politicians, who are in the pocket of their corporate paymasters in any case.

Obvious comment perhaps: Bliar shouldn't have sent them there in the first place.

NO matter what we as a nation want, Bliar will put the interests of the USA before the people of this country and the menwho will die as a consequence of his actions.

Peter Harris. Yes - so long as they don't send them to Afganistan.

Only when the resurgents in Iraq have ceased and the protection of the Iraqi people and Iraq's future is secure, then Britain and America's forces can withdraw.

We started this mess we might as well help to clear it up,no matter how long it takes. It may take months or years, but we;ve made a commitment.

Just look at Israel and Palenstine after the Mandate at the end of theSecond World War, we left in our own interests too soon and the area fell into further chaos.

We made a wrong decision, but if we leave now, there will definitely be a very vicious, and nasty civil war. The presence our troops, with those of our US allies, may well lessen the risk of open war, and may well alleviate some of the suffering caused by our actions,

The OCCUPATION is the cause of this chaos in Iraq. No nation enjoys being occupied and brutally supressed. Yes. Time we were out of there.

Iraq has no chance of peace, independence or real democracy till all foreign troops are withdrawn.

The only reason we are still there is political, and that's not a good enough reason to stay and put further lives at risk.

It is time to leave middle east and allow the region to come up with ideas to solve their problems.
Politician must realise that routed problems any where in the world can be staired up and formed the basis for truble. Peaple by nature get on with one another if we let them be.
Iraqies leaved to gether for centuries, sunnie, shiaie and kords with other ethnic minoreties. When Saddam whised to, there were problem, otherwise they leaved to gether with out any disturbences.
For US it the economical gain that is paramount, look at the billion of dollers being pushed in the pockets of the inner-circle of Mr Chanie and friends. It realy is time to leave

To pull out now would be gravely irresponsible. British actions on Iraq have been somewhat less than admirable up to now but they could still go some way in redeeming themselves by influencing the US and Iraq's puppet government.

I'm astounded and dimayed by the British public's disinterest in the issue in the run up to the election.

Their will never be any acceptable success in Iraq, or the total middle east, until Iran's' Nuclear Bomb production is stopped. Troops guarding every block of every town would not be enough to bring peace to Iraq. Yes, British troops take out some troops, rest a bit. The nine super powers of the planet are uniting to be sure there is not a tenth.

British troops were sent to Iraq for the wrong reasons.
Foreign troops on Iraqi soil are the cause of all the mayhem there.

History shows Britain has no business being in Afghanistan, they tried it several times before and always ended in a disaster and that was when the Afghans had spears, now they are going to get the most modern anti aircraft missiles to shoot multi million dollars aircraft out off the sky.

These politicians are giving our country away at a fearful pace, we need our troops back here to save their own nation before it is too late. Germany has expanded it's army to 2/3rds larger than ours they excercise with the Russians, but leave all the dangerous work to our lads. Get them home NOW!

They need to stop this war on resources and focus money and energy into a new fuel rather than storm into another country to gain a monopoly on oil.

I answered "yes" but I should have answered "no" because "yes" implies that they should have been there in the 1st place.
Iraq is a busted flush. The Iraqis say our presence is exacerbating the security situation and so does the head of the army. Which other opinions count in this story? I can't think of any. Its time to leave and concentrate on preventing Afghanistan from falling again to the Taliban. Iraqis can look after themselves- not necessarily in the way that Bush and Blair want them too but in the absence of the main protagonists in this sordid tale there will undoutbedly be a turn inwards by the natives and a struggle for stability. Bush and Blair refuse to engage with Iraq's neighbours so they should get out and let the Iraqis do it instead. Only that way can the whole region restabilise itself.
