Alistair Darling is doing just as David Blanchflower has suggested. However, none of the mainstream media have picked up on the importance of the government fiscal stimulus in maintaining aggregate demand. Darling is a Keynsian. By redistributing money from the rich to the poor, Darling will increase aggregate demand due to the fact the poor spend a higher percentage of their income.

The budget was not fair. It led people into over- the rainbow- territory, ie sometime in the future a start on the tedious matter of debt might be on the agenda. We need reality now. There is an argument for tackling the debt now and another for its deferment. But there is no excuse for failing to address the argument.
