Jeremy Corbyn’s campaigns director Simon Fletcher quits

Fletcher was credited with masterminding Corbyn's rise to the top of the Labour party.

By Julia Rampen

Jeremy Corbyn’s campaigns director Simon Fletcher, who ran Corbyn’s first campaign for the Labour leadership, has quit the leader’s office. Fletcher, who has left his post to work on other projects, according to Labour sources, said in a statement that “Working for Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership campaign and in the leader of the opposition’s office has been a huge privilege.” He added: “I have worked with Jeremy for well over two decades and I will continue to support him and his leadership.”

Fletcher, who previously worked for Ken Livingstone, both during his campaign to be elected Mayor of London and thereafter at City Hall, was widely respected inside and outside the Labour party.

The Labour leader praised Fletcher in a statement. “I’d like to thank Simon for his work both for my office in parliament and as the campaign director for my 2015 leadership election campaign. I wish him well for the future.”
