Video Gaming
Can the UK maintain its edge?
A recent UK study reported that 82 per cent of nine- to 19-year-olds own a games console and 70 per cent play computer games online. Almost 40 per cent of the UK population now plays video games. Recently, an open letter to government from a group of well-respected academics warned of childhood's demise as a result of "junk culture" and video games. However, new evidence is emerging that suggests that video games may be teaching children valuable life skills as well as giving them superior eye-hand co-ordination.
The UK video games industry is one of our creative strengths; it is the largest market for computer and video games in Europe and the third largest in the world, a position we need to consolidate.
