Politics and the internet age
Whether you trace its origins to ancient Athens, or to Rome, or to England in the Middle Ages, representative democracy has had a long run. Is it now about to come to an end, swept aside by the internet? Or will it emerge triumphant: challenged, changed and perhaps improved by modern information technology, but not destroyed?
Today the information process looks less like a rigid pipeline and more like a plate of spaghetti. It flows in all sorts of directions and in a large number of ways. We can discover what we need to know without reading, watching or listening to a single conventional journalist (or, for that matter, politician).
