What next for public service television?
In the spring, the New Statesman hosted and published a round-table discussion on Phase 1 of Ofcom’s review of public service television broadcasting. On 21 October, the New Statesman hosted a follow-up debate on the recently published Phase 2 of the review, which looks at prospects for the future of public service broadcasting. In the discussion, an edited version of which is presented here, leading figures in television and policy-making looked at where the funding will come from once broadcasting has switched from analogue to digital, and how a new "public services publisher" could fill the gap in the market.
