Fair care for all

Fair care for all

Looking after those in need: How to fix an unequal system for the 21st Century

Care for the disabled has never been as hot a subject for politicians, policy wonks and journalists as the NHS is. But that’s about to change. The baby-boom generation – which has dominated the social, cultural and political agenda since it first crawled out of the nursery – is growing old. When people in the leading wave become pensioners and start to discover how unjust the system is, expect them to make a lot of noise.

Niall Dickson examines the ticking timebomb of Britain’s demographic profile; Katy Guest looks at inequality in the care system; Paul Rodgers explores the bureaucratic labyrinth that those needing care must negotiate; Clarissa Satchell highlights the plight of the elderly; and Lucy Jolin shines the spotlight on women as carers.

And Trevor Phillips, the new chair of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, talks with Martin Bright about what he intends to do to make delivery of social care more equal in the 21st Century.
