Britain is to have a new high-speed railway line from London to the north. Smartcards, such as the London Oyster card, have made travel simpler for millions. However, bolder measures are needed to deal with the twin challenges of congestion and carbon reduction. Road pricing is unpopular but will ultimately have to be embraced.
And the hot issue of the moment is whether a third runway should be built at Heathrow Airport. With Labour backing the idea and the Tories firmly rejecting it, here is a real choice in a general election where it is sometimes hard to tell the main parties apart.
