New Statesman Design Internship

The New Statesman design internship is a great opportunity to experience first-hand the running of a weekly magazine and to work with a busy design team. Working with a small team in the art department, interns will be expected to work on magazine layouts and prepare pages for press, as well as doing picture research, downloading and retouching images, designing supplements and assisting with general administrative tasks.


Applicants must:
- be educated to degree level
- have a good knowledge of Quark and Photoshop
- display good layout skills
- have experience of working with templates and style sheets
- be self-motivated, efficient, well-organised, reliable and have strong attention to detail

Information:
- A standard placement lasts one month, but can be flexible. Working hours are 10am - 6pm with early starts and late finishes on press days.
- All interns are based in our offices near Blackfriars.
- Placements are unpaid; however we do cover travel costs (within London zones 1-3)
- We have more applicants than places; candidates are selected on merit.

New Statesman Online Internship

The online internship is a great opportunity to get involved with the day-to-day running and ongoing development of a news website. Interns work with a small online editorial team to manage the website: tasks include uploading content, monitoring comments and writing news round-ups. They are also expected to carry out research for new elements currently being added to the website, and to contribute ideas. They will also be welcome to attend editorial meetings and to pitch articles which, if accepted, will be published in the magazine or on the website.

Applicants must: - be educated to degree level - have a strong interest in politics and current affairs - have some experience of using a content management system - be self-motivated, efficient, well organised and reliable.

Information: - A standard placement lasts two months. Working hours are 10am - 6pm. - All interns are based in our offices in Farringdon. - Placements are unpaid; however interns will be paid our standard rates for any articles published and we do cover travel costs (within London zones 1-3) - We have more applicants than places; candidates are selected on merit.

New Statesman Projects Intern

The New Statesman Brand and Project Department is looking for an intern to help plan and professionally execute a range of events, including roundtable debates, conferences and symposiums across a wide spectrum of current affairs issues.

Tasks will include research, report writing, database management, and general support for the team with whatever requires assistance. The successful candidate will also support our promotional and branding initiatives.

We are looking for someone with a demonstrated interest in current affairs, who is competent with administrative tasks and who also has some experience in running events. The selected candidate will hold a level of responsibility and will be expected to be professional and enthusiastic in all tasks.

The position will be for 2 to 3 days a week. We require availability from March 22nd. The position is unpaid however travel expenses from zones 1-3 will be covered. Offices are in Temple.

Arts and Books Internship

The arts and books internship offers an excellent opportunity to be fully involved in the day-to-day running of a busy arts desk. Working with a small team of editors, interns will be expected to research arts events, contribute ideas for future pages, carry out basic editing and assist with general administrative tasks. They will also have the chance to pitch and write up book reviews and arts pieces.

  • Applicants must be educated to degree level, have a thorough knowledge of literature and contemporary arts and a keen interest in arts journalism.
  • The internship lasts for one month and is based in our offices in Farringdon. Hours are 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri and the position is unpaid, although travel expenses can be reimbursed.
