Letters - Jazzed-up Duce still ain't cool

I am not so sure that skimpy outfits "would . . . have made Il Duce blanch" ("Italy's name without shame", 18 July), as that egregious dictator was not one to worry about exposed flesh (his own or that of females) provided he could keep his shoes on during his sexual activities. Neither should one really be surprised at Romano Mussolini's jazz affiliation, because his father's favourite musician was Fats Waller. But although in both cases Mussolini compares favourably with the prudish Fuhrer, we ought not to exonerate him simply because he was a buffoon. History is littered with such brutal jokers, from Nero to Idi Amin.
