A cookie thief was hunted down by police after stealing two biscuits from a coffee shop in Hampstead. Officers were alerted to the theft of the chocolate chip treats after being flagged down by distressed staff at Starbucks in South End Road last Wednesday evening. A suspect's description was circulated across the police radio network and a man was later stopped in Haverstock Hill. During a search, one of the cookie bars was retrieved from the 34-year-old's pockets.

A Conservative councillor has been dismissed as a tourism boss after wrecking location filming of an episode of EastEnders. BBC bosses threatened to sue after Havant borough councillor Frank Pearce, 42, waded out to sea in Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, to get in camera shot.
