Letters - The American exception

Bonnie Greer ("I'm still proud of my passport", 25 October) is a clear example of how even intellectual, well-informed, well-educated Americans cannot drop their belief in their nation's unique moral righteousness. The most dissenting of Americans hold dearly to the belief that their nation is different from all others, that they have escaped history. As George Bush works to turn the US into a neo-feudal society, Greer hides her head in the clouds and sings of "the land of the free".
