Letters - Crosland's private life

Francis Beckett, reviewing a book by Robert Stevens (Books, 6 February), leaves unchallenged the author's scurrilous assertion that Anthony Crosland "saw nothing inconsistent in his wife's children, who lived with him, attending private schools". Not long after marrying Tony, I withdrew my elder daughter from St Paul's School. She and her younger sister both attended Holland Park Comprehensive. Beckett adds that "even Crosland's sexual promiscuity is shoehorned into the argument". But the shoe still did not fit: perhaps to our surprise, he gave up promiscuity when he married me.
