Waste of paper

Tom Brown's defence of not being a member of "Team McLeish" (4 December) was extraordinary and an unfortunate waste of a whole page. Whether he is or isn't part of McLeish's kitchen cabinet doesn't hide the truth that he counts among the Scottish political journalists whom Tony Blair described as "unreconstructed w****rs".

During the debate to repeal Section 2A (MacSection 28) by the Scottish Parliament, his mysogenistic and homophobic rantings in the Daily Record were nothing short of outright bigotry. Criticising other journalists who "slant their reports to suit their proprietors' right-wing politics" is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. He should seek employment with the Daily Mail - then he could truly claim to refute his comments that (in his words) "journalists who claim to have no opinions and allegiances are either dull or dishonest". He fits neatly into both descriptions.
