Woolwich, the former building society taken over by Barclays, has hired a psychologist to scrutinise customers' monthly statements. The bank said it "realised that a statement can provide complex clues that build a clear picture of lifestyle and personality profiles".
Dr Richard Wiseman from the University of Hertfordshire was employed by the bank to carry out the study of 50 accounts. Before becoming a psychologist [Dr Wiseman] was a magician. - Sunday Times (John O'Byrne)
