Award Categories

Digital Democracy

This award will recognise the use of new media technology to improve democracy in Britain; and includes those that create greater discourse between elected officials and their electorate; easier access to voting and the expression of opinions; or that make Government and democracy more accessible, transparent and appealing.

Access, Inform, Educate

This category recognises innovative or educational projects that, through the use of digital technologies, promote opportunities or provide better access to new information and ideas. Special attention will be given to projects that enhance learning for those individuals and groups who are difficult to reach.

Digital Inclusion

This category is brand new for the 2009 New Media Awards. We are looking for innovative projects that use digital technologies to bring people and communities together. Whether the community is a neighbourhood, a school, a belief, a need etc. The winner of this category will provide tools for their community to join together, communicate and find information.

Campaign for Change

The campaign for change award will go to the individual or organisation that has most effectively influenced opinions and behaviour through the use of new media technology. The winner of this award will champion a cause and provide information and tools to instigate change.

Annual New Media Award for Achievement

The innovation award recognises social technologies, people or organisations that make an impact and improve our society through the use of new media technology. The winner of this award will provide new technology that when accessed helps to improve society in general.
