  • ecoworld.org.uk is an interactive 3D game and educational web resource designed to encourage young people to learn about sustainable choices.

The web resource hopes to develop young people’s awareness and understanding of the implications for the individual, society, the economy and the environment in the areas of energy, transport, waste, food and water. Also, we hope it will educate young people in the management of natural resources, independent living and environmental responsibility and encourage responsible choices and informed decision-making.

Aimed at key stage 3 teachers and pupils the 3D game provides a fun and interactive way to introduce key sustainability questions, encouraging play, exploration and debate. The game provides many fun extension games with underlying educational reasoning that reflects the Northern Ireland Curriculum. The web resource highlights cost effective ways to save energy and money and gives emphasis to the role young people can play at home and at school.

Evaluation of the ecoworld.org.uk project included a based lined study followed by a comparative study detailing both the learning outcomes and the product satisfaction. The results were very positive showing the web resource and 3D game has been a motivating experience for teachers and pupils in terms of curriculum development, extra-curricular activities, campus improvement and community awareness and involvement.
