Development Trust Association

Nominated in Innovation category.

Development Trusts Association
The DTA is a network of community practitioners. We help people set up development trusts, and we help existing trusts learn from each other and work effectively. We also influence government and others at national and local level, to build support and investment for our movement.
We are aiming for a successful development trust in every community. There are now over 400 development trusts in our membership, in both urban and rural areas.

  • This programme used internet technology – Elluminte - to enhance the skills of individual organisations in trading, as well as for those advising others about to embark on this journey. The emphasis was on supporting organisations throughout the UK through the process of engaging in developing income streams. Technology was a critical tool in facilitating this process.

Organisations were able to undertake a virtual workshop to explore a mixture of ‘worked examples’ from development trusts and others who have taken the trading route to sustainability. The forum enabled participants’ own trading ideas to be explored.

The technology / programme enabled those with great ideas but little experience to learn from those who had experience and could make explicit what the challenges would likely be. This supported everyone’s learning, expertise and confidence.
