New Media Awards 2007 Atos Origin

About the 2007 New Media Awards

The New Statesman New Media Awards 2007, in association with Atos Origin, a major provider of IT and business services to the UK Government, highlight the positive impact of new media technology on public life.

When digital technologies intersect with civic life, they can impact a small community or an entire nation. As far back as 1998, New Statesman held the inaugural New Media Awards, with the aim of promoting creative and innovative use of new technology. Since that time, the new media landscape has altered significantly. Rather than referring simply to the 'web', the term 'new media' now encompasses a wide range of technological developments. With the rapid evolution of digital and mobile technology, organisations have far greater reach when they effectively employ new media.

Categories:
The awards aim to recognise those that both realise the potential of new media technology and have the commitment and stamina to effectively execute their ideas. The award categories, which vary from year to year, suitably reflect this goal.

The award categories are:

Contribution to civic society
Modernising government
Elected representative
Education
Information and openness
Advocacy
Young Innovator

Nominations are now closed.

Judging
The judges will be looking for evidence of creative implementation of technology; a willingness to exploit the potential of new media; and an effort in making content as widely accessible as possible. The intention is to focus on those who have achieved something of benefit to others, whether in their community or in wider society.

Awards
The awards will be presented at an exclusive - invitation only - event in central London in July 2007.
