BBC - WW2 People's War
An opportunity for veterans of World War Two to come online and add their wartime memories and images. This is not the stuff of Spielberg films or academic discourse, but a living archive of stories from the people who were actually there. A nationwide network of over 2,500 libraries, museums and learning centres are working in partnership with the BBC to provide computer access to this generation [many for the first time], to assist them in discovering more about the internet and make their contribution. The resulting archive will remain in the public domain as a tribute to that generation's wartime experiences and a legacy for future generations. WW2 People's War
The BBC is building a archive of WW2 stories and is encouraging the public to join in both in writing and researching the area. They're looking for stories from people who lived through the war so that this first-hand testimony is captured for future generations. In addition they're also looking for people to hand down family stories as told to them by the war generation. They hope that the website will prove to be a way of honouring the memory of those who sacrificed so much. The site enables writers to accompany their story with a picture.
