After selling more than 3m copies in its inaugural printing a week ago, the first March Sun on Sunday sold half a million fewer copies, shifting an estimated 2.6m copies.
Rupert Murdoch was hoping for and predicting a drop in sales of 15 per cent from the first edition.
On Saturday, he tweeted:
What will second Sunday edition of Sun sell? My guess down fifteen per cent would be a great result.
The final tally from this past Sunday is not yet available. A fall from 3.2m a week earlier to 2.6m would be a nearly 19 per cent drop.
Murdoch took to Twitter to announce that the first edition of the Sun on Sunday had sold 3m copies. He had previously said he would be happy with anything over 2m.
