By Press Gazette Published 28 September 2011
London Mayor Boris Johnson is backing the campaign to give local newspapers press passes to cover next year's London Olympics.
As revealed by Press Gazette on 9 September, Archant's Newham Recorder is the only local title in London that has been accredited for next year's event. The Evening Standard is refusing to comment on how many press passes it has been granted.
Some 400 media accreditiations have been granted for UK newspapers to cover the London Olympics. Only a handful of passes are going to local media with the vast majority going to the national press.
