The Sunday Herald title likely to be re-launched as magazine

Move comes amid lay-offs after newspaper suffers another dip in circulation

Scottish newspaper the Sunday Herald will likely be turned into a news and current affairs magazine, according to allmediascotland.com.

However, publishers at the Sunday Herald have remained tight-lipped on speculation about the possible changes.

The website claimed that the multi-section newspaper will be turned into a magazine-style publication, to be rechristened the New Sunday Herald.

The new magazine will retain the services of its top-rated columnists and writers. Editor Richard Walker will play a key role in the redesigning of the publication, to be launched on 9 January.

Allmediascotland also reported that while there have already been six voluntary redundancies at the newspaper, seven more of the editorial staff are to be laid off.

According to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation figures, the Sunday Herald suffered a 3.9 per cent dent in circulation from last year, which now stood at 41,314.
