The Sun, Daily Star cut Saturday cover prices

Falling sales cause price reductions

The Sun and The Daily Star have slashed the cover prices of their Saturday editions by 50 per cent, the Guardian reports.

Following a sales decline in the latest ABC figures, News International cut The Sun's price from 60p to 30p in the Granada, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire regions. Express Newspapers also reacted immediately by slashing the Daily Star's Saturday price from 50p to 30p in the same areas.

The latest ABC figures revealed that the month-on-month circulation for the Daily Star declined by 8 per cent in October, while the sales of The Sun fell 2.36 per cent month-on-month to 2.9 million.

News International reportedly had to cut down The Sun's price to arrest falling sales of its Saturday edition after it replaced the paper's Saturday listings title TV Mag with new lifestyle and television listings magazine, Buzz.
