YouTube unveils mobile site for smartphone users

YouTube attempts to attract smartphone users away from native applications with new mobile site.

YouTube has revamped its mobile site to specifically cater to smartphone users.

The video-sharing site is reportedly trying to replicate the desktop PC-based YouTube experience in a mobile browser. It is keen that mobile phone users watch video through the browser rather than native applications for a better viewing experience.

The new m.youtube.com site is HTML5-compatible. It provides faster navigation and better video quality, and is more touchscreen-friendly than before, Andrey Doronichev, product manager for YouTube Mobile said, while unveiling the site.

A few bugs may prevent iPhone 4 users from seeing the new site right away, but the problems will be fixed soon, he added.
