The Sun launches 'Column Idol' contest

Newspaper is looking for young columnists who will have chance to be published in paper.

The Sun has launched a "Column Idol" contest in the UK - akin to the Pop Idol TV show - to find a promising columnist.

The contest promoted by rap star Dizzee Rascal, has been launched in partnership with the charity Media Trust, and is open to youngsters aged 16-21.

Six finalists will be selected from the entries, and the paper will provide a mentor to each of the finalists to help them hone their writing skills. The final columns will be judged by a panel consisting of the Sun's editor and two columnists.

The winner of the contest will have his or her column published in the Sun and will also get an opportunity to meet Rascal.

Details of entry are available on the paper's websites.
