NYT magazine's editor to oversee new projects for paper

Marzorati to oversee team of editors working on new initiatives.

Gerry Marzorati, who has been the editor of the New York Times magazine for seven years, will assume a new role as the editor of new projects at the paper, reports the New York Times.

Marzorati would oversee newsroom projects, business ventures and other initiatives at the paper. He will also lead a team of top editors with new initiatives, monitor running projects and work closely with advertisers.

NYT executive editor, Bill Keller, was apparently keen on appointing someone dedicated specifically to forward-looking projects.

In a memo to staff, Keller said Marzorati's experience in reinventing the paper's style magazines and creating several new publications on sports and real estate prompted his selection for the post.

The paper is looking for a replacement for Marzorati. It is believed that the search will not be limited to internal candidates.
