OFT clears Trinity's purchase of GMG Regional Media

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has cleared the Trinity Mirror's acquisition of Guardian Media Grou

According to a statement released on Tuesday, the Office of Fair Trading will not refer the acquisition to the Competition Commission. The deal, which was completed in March, included all the newspapers in Guardian Media Group's Manchester Evening News (MEN) Media division and its Surrey & Berkshire (S&B) papers.

Trinity Mirror is running MEN Media as a separate business headed by David Sharrock, former chief operating officer of GMG Regional Media. However, S&B Media is now managed as part of TNS, Trinity Mirror's existing publishing business in the South of England.

While national ad sales for MEN Media are handled in-house, Media Force is managing the national sales for S&B Media. It is not certain if the national sales for MEN Media and S&B Media will move to Trinity's national sales house, Amra.
