NYT and BBC lead Webby nominations

The American paper and British broadcaster have picked up a total of 24 nominations for the 2010 Web

While the New York Times has bagged 15 nominations, the BBC has snapped up a total of 9. The Guardian News & Media has been nominated in three categories, including best news site and best practice.

The Media Guardian website has been nominated for best news site alongside BBC News, Salon.com, National Public Radio (NPR), and the NYT. The Economist has won four nominations.

Humour sites CollegeHumour and Onion have won six nominations each. Funny or Die, Cheezburger Network and Mashable have won five, four and three nominations, respectively.

The news aggregator site digg.com, Twitter and three US entries - BakeSpace.com, Cuteashell and Goodreads - have been nominated for best social networking site.

Foursquare, MeetMoi and iCrossing's Say What? are nominated for best mobile social networking category. The 14th Webby Awards will be presented in a ceremony in New York on 14 June.
