Journalists fight AIDS in Tanzania

The Association of Journalists Against Aids in Tanzania (AJAAT) is active in exposing health risks,

The association, run by a local Tanzanian journalist Simon Kivamwo, is striving to expose health risk to babies and fight against Aids, according to the Independent.

Kivamwo was moved when the Tanzanian government declared Aids as a national disaster. He founded AJAAT in 2003 with the prime objective of improving reporting about Aids. AJAAT now publishes a weekly newsletter on Aids.

Grants from Tanzania Media Fund -- established with funding from six countries including the UK, Switzerland and Ireland -- helped Kivamwo organise training workshops for journalists and effectively promote media independence in Tanzania.
