Italian charity may sue Sunday Times for libel

The report, published on 19 April, claimed the charity workers - Matteo Dell'Aira, Marco Garatti and Matteo Pagani - had confessed their involvement in a plot to kill Helmand governor Gulab Mangal.

But the organisation's vice president Alessandro Bertani told Adnkronos International (AKI) that the report was baseless. Italian newspapers II Giornale and Libero had followed the British report. Bertani said Emergency will sue the Italian newspapers for continuing with the slandering report despite the organisation denying The Sunday Times story. He also did not rule out suing the Times. However, he indicated that a word of apology from the UK paper would stop them from taking legal action.
