Ohio judge sues newspaper for $50m

Judge conducting trial of alleged serial killer is suing a newspaper covering the case.

Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold, and her daughter, Sydney Saffold, have filed a lawsuit against the Plain Dealer newspaper, reports The Associated Press. They allege that the newspaper's parent company Advance Publications Inc. released confidential information in violation of the privacy policy on the newspaper's website. The Plain Dealer's executive editor Susan Goldberg and many reporters are named in the lawsuit. The newspaper reported on March 26 that offensive anonymous comments posted on its website about the serial-killing suspect Anthony Sowell, charged with murdering eleven women, were traced to the judge's personal e-mail account. However, Shirley Saffold said the comments were posted by her daughter.
