Editor shot dead at hotel in South Africa

Thabo Khongoane killed during armed robbery.

The editor of community newspaper Taxi Time died at a hotel and casino in the South African province of North West on April 8. Khongoane, 43, was covering a University of Bophuthatswana event at the hotel conference centre. A gang of nine men entered the hotel before midnight and held everyone at gun point before fleeing off with money. The robbers took Khongoane's camera before shooting him dead with an AK-47 rifle. The police officials said the men fled in a Nissan bakkie which was later found abandoned about two kilometres from the hotel. The vehicle had false registration.
