The London Evening Standard's readership has risen by 133 per cent year-on-year, according to the Na

The paper's readership is now estimated to be 1,394,000, which is more than that of the Guardian and the Financial Times.

Analysts say the Standard's steps such as going free and boosting its distribution to 600,000 have paid-off.

The Independent on Sunday, which the Standard's owner Alexander Lebedev is contemplating to buy, is the worst performing title in the NRS.

The NRS figures differ from those of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) figures because they measure the readers, not sales. Also, they are estimates and not hard data.
