Swedish newspapers republish Mohammed cartoon

Move in support of threatened cartoonist

Three Swedish newspapers - Dagens Nyheter, Expressen and Sydsvenska Dagbladet - on Wednesday republished a controversial cartoon depicting Prophet Mohammed with a dog's body in a move to support the Swedish cartoonist, Lars Vilks.

Ever since the cartoon was first published in 2007, the cartoonist has been under threat from Islamic extremists. Seven people allegedly planning to kill him were recently detained in Ireland.

The Stockholm-based daily, Dagens Nyheter, said they republished the cartoon to make public the alleged assassination plot and also to express solidarity towards the artist.
