The Sun published merely a 135-word news story titled "Report 'Hijack'", which only highlighted the claims by the Tory MP, Philip Davies, that by "smearing" Andy Coulson, Labour members are politicising the issue.
The Times, on the other hand, published a 230-word story at the bottom of page 15. It mentioned the MPs' criticism of News International and some counter attacks by the company executives.
Both the papers failed to mention the "industrial scale" of the hacking operations as detailed by the committee.
Papers such as The Telegraph and The Daily Mail also played down on the criticism. Instead of focussing on the phone hacking details, they tried to highlight other aspects of the report dealing with press standards, privacy and libel.
