GMG's north-west NUJ chapels unite ahead of the Trinity takeover

The National Union of Journalists members at the Manchester Evening News (MEN) and the weekly papers

Although the two parts of MEN Media have been represented separately, the NUJ members decided to pool their resources fearing job cuts and a threat to media diversity and plurality in the north-west of England.

In a joint statement, Judy Gordon, the MEN's mother of chapel, and Bethan Dorsett, MEN weeklies' mother of chapel, said a strong, united chapel of over 100 journalists can take positive action to prevent any job losses or other damaging changes that the new owners may want to implement at a later stage.

NUJ's general secretary, Jeremy Dear, appreciated the move.
