• 1 Does art make a difference?
  • Yes. It especially makes a difference for those who dedicate themselves to art and give their lives to it. I have experienced at first hand how art can change your life: without art, I wouldn’t be able to travel, or have the friends and the life I have today.
  • 2 Should politics and art mix?
  • I do not think that politics and art are a good combination – I have never seen it work well. Art should have the freedom to be concerned with expressing beauty and subjective issues that politics cannot deal with.
  • 3 Is your work for the many or for the few?
  • It is for everyone, for those that are interested. It is for whoever can access it.
  • 4 If you were world leader, what would be your first law?
  • I’m not good with laws, so the possibility for me to be a world leader is limited. I would prefer to assert my leadership not through laws, but through positive example.
  • 5 Who would be your top advisers?
  • A leader looks for many qualities. I would select the people whom I trust most – those who have supported me and journeyed with me.
  • 6What, if anything, would you censor?
  • It is very difficult for me, as an artist, to consider censorship. To an artist, censorship signifies subordination or domination. I believe nothing should be censored.
  • 7 If you had to banish one public figure, who would it be?
  • The corrupt! And the unpunished – those who get away with committing crimes and are not made responsible for their acts. Those that massacre millions for their own benefit.
  • 8 What are the rules that you live by?
  • I don’t really have rules. My behaviour is governed by my responsibilities.
  • 9 Do you love your country?
  • Obviously, very much. I love Brazil – I’m crazy about my country.
  • 10 Are we all doomed?
  • I prefer to think of new beginnings. Anything can happen in this world. Maybe a new genius will be born, someone who can find a solution. Maybe children will change the world and a new leader will emerge.
