Mexico: agricultural land as a percentage of land area

The graph shows a steadily high increase in agricultural land until 1994, when it steadied until 2005 before dropping. The high level of imported goods can be a cause for this sharp decline in agricultural land, as can foreign investment in Mexico.

Nafta increased the amount of Mexico imports and allowed for foreign investments to take place. The steadying of agricultural land could also be attributed to farmers who have emigrated from rural areas, which has steadily increased since the mid 20th century.
